At the end of 2012, president of AMIQT, Dr. Bernad and his colleagues began welcoming International Medical Students for month long Clinical Rotations & Externships in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. This Externship program is a non-degree program specifically designed to benefit International Medical Students seeking US clinical experience. The clinical experience offered by AMIQT is designed to allow medical students attending schools outside the United States to work in various specialties in the Washington, DC area, and to gain experience in the U.S. medical system. If you are interested in multiple specialties, we can accommodate you. Students are given the opportunity to live and work in metropolitan Washington DC while working with first class doctors at George Washington University and Bridgepoint Capitol Hill Hospitals.
This program is beneficial for medical students applying to residency programs in the United States, providing adequate clinical experience and an overview of the US health care system. Externs carry the same responsibility as first year residents in that they are provided with hands on experience.
Dr. Peter Bernad, and his colleagues participating with AMIQT are board-certified in their specialties in practice in the Washington, DC area for many years. They welcome students to participate in month-long rotations and observerships with him and highly qualified colleagues. If students are interested in multiple specialties, AMIQT can accommodate them.
Student rotations typically last four weeks, longer rotations can be accommodated, as can more than one specialty. In a typical rotation in Dr. Bernad’s Neurology private practice, for instance, students gain clinical experience in the offices of Neurology Servcies, Inc. . They learn to take histories, assess and diagnose patients, learn about a wide range of neurological diseases and disorders through assisting with and observing patients. The students begin in the clinic each morning and make hospital visits in the afternoon, shadowing Dr. Bernad on hospital rounds after they finish in the clinic. Each student is also required to research and give a presentation on a topic of their choosing.
