Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

I have a rather unhealthy obsession with doing mock trial and love running a good cross or arguing an objection. Going into college, I knew I wanted to continue doing mock trial and get a look into the world of college mock trial. Mock trial people are also just fun to hang out with, if we're being honest.

Q) What are you most excited for this year?

I'm excited to compete against other universities and see the styles of other college mock trial teams. I'm excited to drive to tournaments and get to know the team better as the year continues:)

That’s it for our new members, but stay tuned for tournament updates as we compete throughout the rest of the semester!

Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

No doubt, team trips to tournaments!  I really look forward to taking part in the team’s spirit, unity, and camaraderie, so I can’t wait to get on the road to compete!

Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

I tried out for GUMT many moons ago because I had an interest in pursuing a career in corporate law, but I had no clue, outside of Law and Order, as to how things worked.

Q) What is your favorite part/memory of GUMT?

The people! My favorite memories all tie back to the different club members I share the memory with. In fact, it's the people of this club that made me feel so welcome on this campus my freshman year! I have always felt indebted to those individuals, and I aim to inspire the new members that join us in the same way that I was once inspired.

Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

I tried out for GUMT because I had done mock trial once at a summer program in high school, and had absolutely fallen in love with it! I loved performing, arguing, and courtroom dramas, so I thought it would be a really good intersection of my interests and a good way to prepare for law school.

Q) What is your favorite part/memory of GUMT?

The people in this program are some of the coolest people I’ve ever met. From late night case discussions to studying together in Lau, the people are hands down the best part of this organization. I’m so incredibly grateful to have found my community in this club, so it’s hard to choose one memory that I can point to as my favorite.

Next up we have our Treasurer, Adam Hamdan (COL ’24)!

Major: Economics & Government

Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

In high school I competed in speech and debate and by the time I got to college I knew I wanted to try something different. For me, mock trial was a nice change of pace where I had the opportunity to work on a team rather than individually like in debate while also exploring my interest of the law. By the time CAB fair rolled around, I knew GUMT was something I couldn’t pass up!

Q) What is your favorite part of GUMT?

I know it may sound corny but my favorite part of GUMT was meeting so many wonderful people. Getting to finally be on campus this past year and meet so many amazing individuals has really made everything at Georgetown worth it.

Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

Mock trial seemed super appealing to me because it combined three of my favorite things: arguing, public speaking, and theater.

Q) What is your favorite part of GUMT?

This is a hard one, because I truly love every moment I spend with this team, but I would have to say either our trip to Rochester and watching the time change on daylight savings, or when we found out we placed first at ORCS in the Chipotle parking lot!

It’s time to meet the Board! First up we have our final fall captain and Secretary, Matt Shin (COL ‘25)!

Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

I did mock in high school and absolutely loved it, so I was interested in continuing mock at Georgetown. Seeing how close the team was at the club fair made it an easy decision to try out!

Q) What is your favorite part/memory of GUMT?

It’s hard to choose a favorite memory even though it’s only been a year. From screaming outside a restaurant with my fall team, crying when C qualified to ORCS, or celebrating B and C making it to Nationals in a McDonald’s parking lot, I can’t choose one. The amazing people in this club though are what made each of those moments so special to me, and I can’t wait for the coming years!

Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

I have always been into public speaking and law. Coming into college I was really looking for a way to pursue both of those interests and mock trial was definitely one of the clubs that I wanted to join.

Q) What is your favorite part of GUMT?

My favorite memory would have to be during ORCs last semester. We were all in the car driving back home from Ohio watching closing ceremonies when they announced that both our B and C teams were the first two bids out to nationals. That was the best feeling in the whole world because all our work in the past few weeks came to fruition and everyone was just so excited to have two GUMT teams go to nationals, something that had never happened before.

I tried out for GUMT because I did Mock Trial in high school, and it seemed like an opportunity to connect with like-minded peers.

Q) What is your favorite part of GUMT?

My favorite part of GUMT last year were the MSB practices before competition. Staying up until 4am running directs made me a lot closer to the people on my team!!

Q) What is your favorite part of GUMT?

Competing in tournaments together is such a great part of being on the team because we really get to bond and grow together while also having a lot of fun.

Q) Why did you try out for GUMT?

I tried out for GUMT because I fell in love with the activity in high school. Mock Trial was responsible for some of my more memorable moments and I thought it was special that such close bonds could be formed over mocking trials. Bars.

Q) What is your favorite part of GUMT?

My favorite memories in GUMT are definitely the late nights we spend together in the ICC, sometimes not even doing Mock Trial, and the various tournament nights in the various hotels? we find ourselves in. Motels build character.

I tried out for GUMT because I had done it in high school and wanted to keep doing it in college. Everyone seemed really nice, and I wanted to be part of the community!

Q) What is your favorite part of GUMT?

My favorite memory of GUMT was finding out our team had won a tournament while we were getting breakfast at a restaurant after the final round. Everyone was so excited, even the people at the restaurant who had no idea why we were cheering!
