An attack on one part of our community, is an attack on all of us.

There is no place for hate and racism on our campus or within our community. The Interfraternity Council and the entire Greek community stands with the sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Diversity, inclusion, and respect are shared values across our community. Together, we must strive to make this campus safe for all by holding each other accountable.

Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity

[Founders' Day]

Brothers,

2016 was a tremendous year for Phi Sigma Kappa. Our membership reached the highest it’s ever been in our Fraternity’s history. We added strong colonies at Appalachian State and the University of Cincinnati (both of which will be chartering this month) and launched new initiatives that over time will transform the trajectory of our beloved Fraternity. While we can all be proud of the work that was done, we should continue to strive and build upon everything the Founders set in motion 144 years ago.

As we celebrate the founding of our great fraternity, let us remember not just the six men who paved the way for us all, but also the men who came after. The men who gave us reason to celebrate year after year as Phi Sigma Kappa became more than a group of six men, it became a Brotherhood of more than 100,000. A brother who comes to mind immediately is one who also left us for Chapter Eternal recently, Brother Jim Whitfield. Jim was instrumental in the merging of two remarkable Brotherhoods into the one we see today. He was an example of how fraternity can shape a man throughout his lifetime and how he can then shape the lives of the countless men who follow.

While we hit an important milestone this year, the journey of Phi Sigma Kappa continues. It has been said that no journey is ever truly complete and the road of continuous improvement is marked with its challenges and victories. Today, we collectively celebrate the victory of 144 years. I believe that if we continue to build and foster a culture of achievement, Phi Sigma Kappa will become a pillar in the university community and our world.

The Fraternity is extremely lucky to have staff and amazing volunteers that make all of this possible. Every time I visit a chapter, speak to a brother on the phone, interact over social media, there is a positivity and excitement about what the future holds. If we continue to work together, I am confident 2017 will be a wonderful year for Phi Sigma Kappa and that we will continue to become the Fraternity our Founders could have only imagined it would be 144 years after its formation.

By these things I stand!

Grand President
Scott Jacobson

Brother Dick Taylor.
The Super Phi Sig nomination for Epsilon Triton chapter at American University is our Dick Taylor. Dick graduated AU in the 50s where he was bestowed pin number 72. He has become the figure head and leader of our chapter ever since then. His leadership and guidance has kept our chapter active for 76 years. He was instrumental in getting our chapter our on campus house which was built in 1962. He assisted the chapter again in 1992 when the University officials refused to renew the land lease for our house. He has helped the current brotherhood remain very active part of AU even against the odds of not having a permanent place to call our own. At over 80 years young, Dick still maintains a leadership role in our alumni club as well as an organizer of our alumni softball games, Founders Day and our other philanthropic activities. Through his work in the Alumni club, Dick manages the chapters finances that will keep the chapter viable and active.

Dick is also a member of the American University Athletic Hall of Fame as a three time letterman in baseball. He can normally be found on the pitcher's mound during our annual alumni/active Founder's Day game.He has always been there to help the chapter but as well as to help individual brothers with personal time and support who needed help as well. Dick has also worked for many years with DC youth baseball.

Needless to say, the membership is internally grateful for his contribution to our chapter. With over 60 yrs of dedication of service to PSK-ET, Dick "Big Dicker" Taylor is truly our inspiration. He is worthy of the title "SUPER PHI SIG".

To all our Brothers who are serving or have served, thank you for your service and dedication to our country! Without you, we would not live in this glorious nation which allows us to practice various religions, vote freely, and drink alcohol, all without fear of persecution! Take a moment to remember those who are not here to celebrate with us today. We raise our glasses for you.
