The GW Center for Excellence in Public Leadership is committed to developing public leaders who make a positive difference in their organizations and the lives of the people they serve. George Washington University's Center for Excellence in Public Leadership offers Enterprise Risk Management and Leadership Development programs designed to benefit public sector leaders and their organizations at a

ll levels of government. CEPL's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Certification is designed to provide public sector leaders with the knowledge and skill set to develop an ERM approach to handling strategic and operational risks throughout their organization. The certification introduces participants to the fundamental concepts, principles, and tools of ERM and also provides an environment to develop a draft risk profile for their area of responsibility and/or their organization as a whole. In addition, CEPL's Leadership Embodiment Coaching Program uses a holistic model of development and change – one that encompasses and accounts for the context in which public sector leaders live while simultaneously acknowledging their individual journeys in life.

Highlighting the Peer Case Management Institute (PCMI) Team — winners of the 23rd Calvin Cafritz Awards! Led by A. D. Rachel Pierre, Lindsay Curtin, and Miati Taliaferro, PCMI is a groundbreaking effort by the Department of Human Services to transform workforce development through lived experience.

By preparing individuals who have experienced homelessness to become professional case managers, this team has built a powerful bridge from resilience to public service. In partnership with the Howard University School of Social Work, their 14-week program achieved an 88% completion rate, with 20 graduates now working directly within the District’s homeless services system.

From strategic policy and operational oversight to daily on-site mentorship, Rachel, Lindsay, and Miati ensured every detail reflected dignity and care. Their vision is now a national model, proving that lived experience is a superpower for serving others.
