Alpha Phi Omega - Theta Chi

We're a gender-inclusive national service fraternity serving the George Washington University and th Membership to Alpha Phi Omega was opened to women in 1976.

Alpha Phi Omega is a national service organization founded on the principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service. It provides its members the opportunity to develop leadership skills as they volunteer on their campus, in their community, to the nation, and to the organization. With more than 400,000 members on over 375 campuses, Alpha Phi Omega continues to provide more service on more campuses

than any other collegiate service organization. The Theta Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at The George Washington University was originally founded on May 14, 1950. Over the past 50 years, more than 600 GWU students have been initiated into APO, providing service to the campus, the community, the nation and the brotherhood. Alpha Phi Omega views the term "brother" as gender neutral. GWU's chapter accepts all individuals, regardless of gender identity, to join the rush process.

💛BROTHERS OF THE WEEK💛 Last Saturday, our brothers participated in the annual to raise money for Children’s National Health System. Every dollar raised went directly to caring for the children and families in our local community. Huge shoutout to all our brothers who helped raise money and participated in the dance marathon. 💙BROTHER OF THE DAY💙 Hello everyone!! My name is Zena! I joined APO the spring of my freshman year because I was looking to find a community I felt like I belonged in on campus. My roommate was rushing apo so I thought I would rush with her and it was the best decision I made so far in college. Through APO I’ve met all my best friends and have had the opportunity to be a member of the larger DC community and not just this campus by doing service in different areas. I can’t wait for more opportunities to serve my community and build life long relationships through this amazing organization. 💙💛💙💛

Hi friends! My name is Tsegenet and i am a proud member of the Spring 19 class of Alpha Phi Omega. I joined because one of my greatest mentors was a brother and she joined her freshman year, and I also valued the principles of leadership, friendship, and service. Through ΑΦΩ, I’ve learned about countless ways to serve the DC community. I joined APO because I was looking for a way to be more involved in community service while also meeting new people at GW. Plus I had heard nothing but great things about the work that this org does on campus and in the greater DMV community. 💛BROTHER OF THE DAY💛 Helloooooo! My name is Leila Wynnyckyj. I joined APO in the Fall of 2019 as a first semester Sophomore. During Spring Break of my Freshman year, I went on an Alternative Break with GW to NOLA. I met some incredible people on that trip. I found out later that most if not all were in APO! I couldn’t wait to return to campus my Sophomore year and participate in the recruitment process! When I pledged, I truly felt like I was part of an amazing community of genuine individuals! People who really wanted to affect change and make an impact. Service has always been important to me; it is a part of who I am and what really drives me….it is a big part of my identity. APO has allowed me to expand my knowledge of service and meet so many awesome people; many of whom I consider some of my closest friends. I am so grateful to APO for giving me a place and a platform where I truly feel like myself and feel I can thrive alongside individuals who share my passion for giving back.
