Summer 2024 students please don’t leave!!!! This group was so fun: they went all in for a western themed banquet, they planned a student networking event called “WaveNet” (get it?!), went to soccer games, saw the Nats play, & truly got to explore the cool, interesting city that is DC. We can’t wait for them to come back and speak on some future panels one day!!!!! ✨✨✨

after a 13 hour travel day… we have officially landed in the DR !

As we get ready to embark on our IST, here are some fun facts about the Dominican Republic !!

• Santo Domingo, where we’ll be staying, is the oldest city in the Americas
• Their motto is “Dios, Patria, Libertad” meaning God, Homeland, Freedom
• One of the most popular dishes is “tostones”, which is fried plantain
• The DR is a popular whale-watching destination during the months of February and March when humpback whales migrate from the North Atlantic to the Bay of Samana
• The first cathedral, hospital, and university in the Americas were founded in Santo Domingo

Follow along to see our time in the Dominican Republic! We will be working closely with two local churches to foster community and promote service leadership!

• Hobbies: lifting, surfing, making videos
• Internship: House of Representatives

Some of Max’s daily tasks at work include writing policy briefs, drafting official correspondents, meeting with lobbyists and constituents, and giving tours to visiting constituents and delegations!

During our final weekend in D.C., some students took a break from writing papers to go ice skating ❄️ thanks to our amazing RA’s, events like this allowed us to explore D.C. on a budget!!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Hey y'all, I'm Arjun! I'm interning at GABI (Global American Business Institute) for the fall! My internship works on understanding nuclear, hydrogen, and renewable energy technologies worldwide. On a daily, this experience makes me research, attend conferences, and form reports based on these global energy trends. Besides work, my favorite thing about DC would be visiting the National Mall and seeing all the museums DC has to offer! I look forward to meeting DC's spring cohort; feel free to hmu, we will have a blast!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: “This Fall, I am a development intern at Becky's Fund, a non-profit organization that seeks to end domestic violence through advocacy, education, and outreach. Currently, I am doing research on the history of toxic masculinity, its impacts, and how we as a community can confront the negative effects. Being in DC has taught me so much about the value of a support system. I have been so blessed to participate in a program with the coolest and most hardworking people I know, which has definitely been a motivation for my personal and professional growth. Aside from growing in my career at Becky's Fund and continuing my studies, I look forward to all the spontaneous adventures I'll go on with my friends!” -jasmine chan🤍
