Sessions will cover teacher diversity, mental health, chronic absenteeism, experiential learning, and more.

9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.: Summit sessions (DCPS teachers only)
12:30–1:30 p.m.: Round tables (students welcome)

Dr. Lisa Maria Grillo, President of Elizabeth Seton High School and Adjunct Professor at Howard University School of Education, will explore where the fight for equity in special education stands and where it goes next. Celebrating Our Leaders 🌟

Eugene Pringle, Director of the EdD Program, recently served as a panelist at the American Federation of Teachers' Professional Development Series at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's 55th Annual Legislative Conference.

The panel discussion explored how labor, solidarity, and collective action can advance democracy and strengthen Black communities. Eugene's participation reflects our commitment to preparing educators who lead with justice, equity, and courage.

Meet Michelle Arquines, MAT ‘08, a Baker School alumna who has dedicated her career to educational equity for multilingual learners and historically marginalized students.

Her approach is transformative: rather than simplifying instruction, she asks what language and supports students need to truly participate and be heard. Working with Children’s Literacy Initiative, Impact Florida, and School Publishing Group, Michelle has helped schools improve dramatically—including leading one Florida school from a D rating to an A rating.

What makes her story powerful is the foundation that drives it all. The Baker School of Education taught her that education connects to community, culture, policy, and language. Every day, she carries forward that mission.
