How can we increase blood pressure readings and connect at-risk patients with care?

The 2024 Georgetown Public Policy Challenge winning team found the answer in haircuts. "Trimming the Risk" took home the $3,000 grand prize by sharing a thoughtful approach that offered a framework for barbershops to offer blood pressure readings during haircuts, engaging volunteer Georgetown University School of Medicine students and offering coupons to participating patrons.

Read more about the team members, Evan Czulada (M‘25), Holly Shan (M’25), Ryan Braun (M‘26), Mana Sheykhsoltan (M‘25), Stefan Prvulovic (M‘27), and their innovation solution:

Last week, the McCourt School was honored to host alums Norah O’Donnell (C‘95, G’03), anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News, and Frank McCourt (C’75), founder of Project Liberty and founding donor of the McCourt School, for a thought-provoking discussion on technology, democracy and the future of the internet.

The conversation featured themes from McCourt’s new book, “Our Biggest Fight: Reclaiming Liberty, Humanity, and Dignity in the Digital Age” with acclaimed author and journalist J. Casey. In the book, they boldly assert that the internet as we know it is broken and suggest that a reimagination of its framework could address its inherent flaws.

“This is a matter of great urgency because real harms are being done in real time.”

The McCourt School of Public Policy’s Tech & Public Policy program hosted the event to commemorate the publication of Frank McCourt's new book.

On Reeves’ book, New America CEO Anne-Marie Slaughter said, “As a feminist who is deeply committed to gender equality and a mother of two young men, I highly recommend ‘Of Boys and Men.’ Reeves offers real, practical solutions to create a world that would be better for all of us, across the gender spectrum.”
