Teachers are known for their dedication. Early mornings, late nights, and weekends spent planning or grading are often seen as part of the job.
But not all of that work is necessary.
Many teachers are spending valuable time on tasks that don’t significantly impact student learning, like creating every resource from scratch, grading every assignment, or responding to emails immediately throughout the day.
By making small adjustments — such as reusing existing materials, prioritizing high-impact grading, and setting communication boundaries — teachers can reclaim time without sacrificing instructional quality.
Sometimes, improving work-life balance isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing less of what doesn’t matter.
