On Tuesday, March 23rd, the AMIRS general body elected Lizzie Williamson to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Jack Tapay-Cueva to the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Lizzie Williamson is a current junior/rising senior at AU majoring in International Studies with a focus on Environmental Sustainability and Global Development. Originally from Chanhassen, MN, she has held a long-time passion for international relations and has been heavily involved in AMIRS since her freshman year. As a sophomore, she served as the Director of Education for AmeriMUNC VIII and as an Assistant Head Delegate for the AUMUN team. Lizzie is currently the Head Delegate of the AUMUN team and is looking forward to further developing this amazing community as AMIRS CEO next year!

Jack Tapay-Cueva is a rising junior majoring in International Studies with a minor in Computer Science. He hails from the Bronx and enjoys listening to podcasts, spamming his friends with TikToks, and mispronouncing the word "charcuterie." This year, Jack was an Assistant Head Delegate for the AUMUN Team as well as the Chief Operations Officer of AmeriMUNC. As he joins the Executive Board, Jack is putting the final touches on the Diplomatic Scrimmage as its Planning Committee Coordinator. In his capacity as Vice President and CAO, Jack is excited to build a more interconnected, inclusive, and career-oriented AMIRS as the organization approaches its 75th anniversary!

With the semester fast approaching, AMIRS is excited to announce our annual recruitment series. Currently, we are AU’s largest and oldest student organization. For the past 74 years we have driven international affairs dialogue at AU. We accomplish this through our five branches which offer a suite of opportunities open to anyone willing to join. Whether you are a senior looking to try something new, or a freshman looking to get involved, there is a place for you in AMIRS. Congratulations to the American University Model UN team for achieving #4 on the 2020-2021 Best Delegate North American final rankings! This is the third year in a row that the AU Model UN Team has maintained its spot in the Top 5.

According to Best Delegate, “American had the second most individual awards on the circuit this year. In addition to winning the Outstanding Large at McMUN and having the second highest weighted score at NCSC, the team received a delegation award at &MUN and racked up a ton of awards at HNMUN, ChoMUN, and LAMUN.”

Congratulations to the Model United Nations travel team's Fall 2021 Assistant Head Delegates!

Lizzie Williamson is a rising junior from Chanhassen, Minnesota, majoring in International Studies with a focus on Environmental Sustainability and Global Development. She is an avid tea drinker and loves spending time outdoors. Lizzie has been with the MUN team since her freshman year and is excited to continue supporting this team through another semester as Assistant Head Delegate!

Jack Tapay-Cueva is a rising sophomore at AU, pursuing a double major in International Studies and Political Science. He hails from the Bronx and enjoys listening to podcasts, losing chess games against his friends, as well as exploring DC in his free time! Beyond the AUMUN Team, Jack will be serving next year's iteration of AmeriMUNC as Chief Operations Officer. As a shameless crisis ju**ie, Jack is excited to specialize trainings, ramp up drills, and see the new heights that AUMUN will reach!

On April 21st, Simon Lux was elected to the position of Head Delegate by members of the American University International Relations Society Model United Nations Team. Simon Lux is a rising senior from Chicago in AU’s School of International Service with specializations in Environmental Sustainability and Global Health, and International Development. He is passionate about Environmental Justice, espresso, and gavels. He has been with the AU Model UN team since his freshman year, and he’s looking forward to his tenure as Head Delegate!

Congratulations to Ben Holtzman for being elected to the position of Secretary General for AmeriMUNC IX. Ben, a current junior studying International Studies, Economics and Israel Studies, was elected to the position by the AMIRS general body on April 5, 2021. Having served as Chair for AmeriMUNC VI, Under Director General for AmeriMUNC VII and most recently, Director General for AmeriMUNC VIII, Ben brings experience and passion to the role. All members of AMIRS are encouraged to participate in the event. Additionally, an anonymous google form will be open for members to detail personal experiences, questions, or feelings about the organization’s efforts on these important topics. The American University International Relations Society is excited to announce that we will be voting on a new constitution next Tuesday, October 13th at 8:15 pm EST.

The constitution is the organization's guiding document and is therefore an integral part of AMIRS. We encourage all members of the organization and its respective branches to attend and vote. Below, we have attached a copy of the constitution which members are encouraged to review prior to the vote. In conjunction with next week’s meeting, we will be holding a voting session for amendments at the end of next month. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out via [email protected]
