A little Saturday morning photo + video dump from the Department of Theatre Arts’ first town hall of the 2026–27 academic year. 🎭✨

Students, faculty, and staff came together to reconnect, meet members of the department community, hear important updates, and officially kick off a new chapter under the leadership of Chair Omiyẹmi (Artisia) Green.

Art. Joy. Purpose. Legacy. 💙

On August 28, Howard marked the sixth anniversary of Chadwick A. Boseman’s passing with the fifth annual Chadwick A. Boseman Day Student Showcase—a celebration of the artistry and community that continue to carry his legacy forward.

Hosted by Howard alumnus Anthony Anderson (Anthony Anderson), the showcase brought together music, dance, fashion, visual art, theatre, and film on the Yard. Anderson also announced a $50,000 gift to the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts in support of Theatre Arts students.

“Tonight, we celebrate the legacy of a Howard legend,” Anderson told the crowd, “but more importantly, we celebrate the artists, dreamers, leaders, and creators who are carrying that legacy forward.”

Breathe. Move. Become.

When Sydni D. Brown began imagining a different path for emerging dancers, she drew upon the training, mentorship and sense of possibility she found at Howard.

Now, the 2026 Howard graduate is building that path herself.

Through Exhale Dance Company, Brown is creating a bridge between collegiate training and professional life — a space where emerging dancers can continue developing their artistry, confidence and community as they navigate what comes next.

Her story is also a story about what happens when education becomes agency: when students leave Howard prepared not simply to enter an industry, but to reimagine it.

What can architecture reveal about the histories we have yet to fully recover?

For Howard University art historian Dr. Melanee C. Harvey-Fryar, the built environment is more than a backdrop to history. It is evidence — a record of Black religious life, artistic practice, community and memory waiting to be examined.

Her latest scholarship turns to architect John A. Lankford and the architectural legacy of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, illuminating histories too often overlooked in traditional accounts of American architecture.

And now, classes featuring this legendary instrument are available to Howard students.

Hear what all the excitement is about as multi-genre recording artist, instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, conductor, arranger and producer—and our very own—Damien Sneed () joins Dr. Reggie Bowen (.ReggieB) for a soulful demonstration of the unmistakable sound, power and possibility of the Hammond B3.

From gospel and jazz to soul and beyond, a new chapter in Howard’s musical legacy has begun.
