At the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts, we believe that artistry flourishes when every member of our community is seen, valued, and empowered to bring their full self to the creative process.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ artists, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and cultural leaders whose courage, creativity, and contributions continue to shape the arts and expand our collective understanding of what is possible.

The arts have long been a space for self-expression, truth-telling, and imagination. We honor those who have helped move culture forward and reaffirm our commitment to fostering a community where all artists can learn, create, and thrive.

Honoring those who gave their lives in service to a nation still striving to fulfill its highest ideals.

This Memorial Day, we remember with gratitude and reverence the servicemembers whose sacrifice shaped the freedoms and possibilities we inherit today, including the countless Black men and women who served with courage even when the country did not fully honor their humanity in return.

At the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts, where artistry meets legacy, we remain mindful that remembrance is not passive. It calls each of us toward service, reflection, and care for one another.

This past semester, the Department of Music within the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University made history.

What is believed to be the first undergraduate business anthropology course offered at an HBCU challenged students to explore the intersection of culture, commerce, and creative practice through hands-on ethnographic research conducted in collaboration with the DC Jazz Festival.

Developed and taught by Professor Autumn McDonald, Business Anthropology for the Arts gave students the opportunity to apply anthropology to marketing, storytelling, leadership, consumer behavior, and the arts industry in real time, culminating in presentations to the Festival’s leadership team and an invitation to present their findings to the Board of Directors this summer.

Since graduating in May 2025, KayaZhanna Donaldson has moved with purpose across stages, genres, and disciplines. From jazz festival performances across the DMV to graduate study at NYU Steinhardt, original work supported by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and an upcoming opera performance at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, her journey reflects the range, discipline, and promise of a CABCoFA alumna stepping boldly into her next chapter.

In an industry where behind-the-scenes representation remains limited, Adjunct Lecturer Tiffani Sydnor is expanding both what and who we see.

A production and scenic designer working across film, television, theatre, and immersive experiences, she brings not only professional distinction, but a perspective that is still far too rare into the classroom at the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts.

Through her work and mentorship, students are learning more than design. They are learning that they belong in the rooms where creative worlds are imagined, shaped, and brought to life.
