This past weekend, our ASCE chapter attended the Mid-Atlantic Student Symposium hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Catholic had six technical teams competing - including Concrete Canoe, Steel Bridge, 3D Printing, Sustainable Solutions, Surveying, and Mead Paper.

As we head into the beginning of the spring semester, let’s recap what CUA was up
to over break!

Dr. Davison, Alexia Menezes (PhD student), and Erin Finan (2nd year environmental engineering) attended the 2026 American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, California. They presented on Track that Trash: An Analysis of Urban Litter Using Receipts.

PhD student Sandra Okah-Avae and Dr. K attended the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board, where they connected with colleagues, learnt from cutting-edge research, and had many great conversations on transportation systems, safety, sustainability, and the future of mobility.

And last but not least, Dr. Hisham Said presented to the CEE 490/590 construction equipment operations course! His talk was on Construction Operations Analysis using Computer Simulation in the industry and explained to students simulation as a tool for imitating the operation of a real world process of system over time to evaluate the performance, existing or proposed, under different configurations of
interest variables.
