Burn Book: A Conversation with Kara Swisher
March 14, 2024 at 4 pm
Gaston Hall, Georgetown University

When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher (SFS'84) was moving faster and breaking news. While still at Georgetown, Swisher got her start at The Washington Post as one of the few people in journalism interested in covering the nascent internet. She went on to work for The Wall Street Journal, joining with Walt Mossberg to start the groundbreaking "D: All Things Digital" conference, as well as pioneering tech news sites. Swisher has interviewed everyone who matters in tech over the past three decades, including Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Sheryl Sandberg, Meg Whitman, Sam Altman, and Mark Zuckerberg, right as they presided over an explosion of world-changing innovation. Part memoir, part history, Burn Book (2024) is a chronicle of tech’s most powerful players by award-winning journalist Kara Swisher.

Online Georgetown Dialogue: “Catholic Sisters Working to Eradicate Human Trafficking"

March 6 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. via livestream

In early March, Catholic Sisters Week shines a light on the faith, spirituality, mission, and community building of women religious internationally. To recognize Catholic sisters, this dialogue will lift up their critical work to address and eliminate human trafficking, which threatens the lives, dignity, and hopes of so many vulnerable people, especially women.

The Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life and the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University are bringing together four outstanding leaders in this vital work to explore questions.

Join fellow alumni and undergraduate students on Thursday, Feb 1 from 6 - 8 p.m. for an evening of
inspired conversation and connection hosted by Hoya Gateway, Georgetown’s premier networking
program. The evening will kick off with an optional panel discussion featuring alumni sharing the role that
their undergraduate programs of study may–or may not–have played in shaping their career path.
Following the panel, you will have the opportunity to meet students and share your insights about the role
that your course of study at Georgetown has played in shaping your professional trajectory,
consequentially addressing a question on the minds of many Georgetown students: Where do I go from
here?
