The Omicron Phi Chapter was chartered on September 11, 1999 in McDowell Hall at American University, with seven young ladies as Omicron Phi’s charter members. Since Omicron Phi's chartering On September 11, 1999, Sigma Gamma Rho has been involved in many community service projects, including the Annual Sleep Out for the Homeless, Operation BigBookBag and a fundraiser for the Rejesta V.
