We’re excited to welcome Dr. Patrick Kent to the BCCC team as a History instructor!

Originally from Wyoming, Dr. Kent has lived, studied, and worked across the country, but his love for North Carolina ultimately brought him back home. With teaching experience at UNC, NC State, Michigan State, and other universities, Dr. Kent says he finds teaching at the community college level uniquely rewarding. He believes education transforms lives and that community colleges provide incredible opportunities for motivated students.

Dr. Kent teaches a wide range of history courses, with a specialty in ancient Roman history. He is also the author of A History of the Pyrrhic War.

We’re thrilled to have Dr. Kent at BCCC and look forward to all the knowledge, stories, and connections he’ll bring to our students and our campus community.

Welcome to BCCC, Dr. Kent!

We’re excited to welcome Sarah Donaldson to the BCCC team!

Originally from Delaware, Ms. Donaldson found her way to North Carolina after falling in love with ECU and the area. Now, she’s excited to begin her first semester at BCCC!

She brings many years of experience teaching mathematics at the high school level and at the community college level. She’s passionate about helping students build confidence in math, ask questions, and realize they’re capable of more than they may think.

Outside the classroom, Ms. Donaldson enjoys spending time with her three girls and finding treasures while thrifting.

We’re excited to have her here and can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make in the classroom!

Welcome to BCCC, Ms. Donaldson!

Bayliss Boatworks visited campus to kick off a new partnership with our Boat Manufacture & Service program. The Bayliss team brought a completed 21-foot center console boat, a replica of the very vessel students will build this year, giving students a firsthand look at the craftsmanship and career possibilities waiting for them in the boatbuilding industry.

Students also had the chance to ask questions directly to the Bayliss team, learning what it takes to succeed in the industry and what it is like to work with a company like Bayliss.

Here is what makes this partnership special:

• Bayliss designed the 21-foot center console specifically for students to build
• Bayliss is funding all materials for the project
• Students get real world experience building a boat from a working design
• The program's curriculum stays the same, with the build wrapping up within a year

This kind of hands-on opportunity is exactly what sets our Boat Manufacture & Service program apart. Huge thanks to Bayliss Boatworks for investing in our students and giving them a launching pad into the industry.

Congratulations to Chris Campbell on receiving the BCCC Golden Apple Award! “Chris Campbell is a modern-day Renaissance man who brings his passion for music to everything he does. As a music instructor and classically trained guitarist, Chris starts each class with a dad joke and keeps students engaged while teaching them that music is much more than entertainment; it is part of who we are and is woven into the fabric of society. Chris can also be seen outside the classroom, whether performing on the BPAC stage or leading students in a holiday parade through a small eastern town. But Chris has taken on even more this year. When the English department needed a temporary lead, he stepped up and took on the challenge. He did such a great job that he is now the full-time department lead. For someone whose home is in the arts, stepping into leadership of an English department is no small thing, and I think it says a lot about Chris's willingness to step outside his usual role, take on a challenge, and make a difference. I hereby present Chris with the BCCC Golden Apple award.” – Chris was nominated by prior Golden Apple recipient Chris Donahue.
