👤 Meet Dr. Michael Zwolanek! We asked him a few questions about working at MBU so you can get to know him better!
What is your current role at MBU?
I am a full-time professor in the humanities, and an advisor to Social Studies Education majors.
What is the most rewarding part about working at MBU?
Working with students in the present is great, but even better may be when I can see previous students out there honoring God through service, through their work in their own families, and so on.
What do you love most about working alongside/teaching students at MBU?
Obviously, my most common touch point with students is in the classroom, so it is great to see student improvement, as I can see how encouraged they are that they’re doing better work, understanding things more/better than they did at the beginning of the semester or year. All of us faculty, I’m sure, also love having good conversations with students that continue outside of class about books we’ve read, ideas we encountered in class, and, of course, blessings we’ve experienced.
What is a fun fact about you that most students wouldn’t know?
-Qualified to be on Jeopardy! (the TV show); you are in their selection pool for about a year, and it’s totally up to them whether they call you or not. They didn’t call.
-Once shoved a refrigerator out of a second story window.
-When I was in 8th Grade, I got yelled at by the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington.
-I’ve been to Fiji.
-This semester, I’ve had students call me “Mr. Board” and “Dr. Love.”
-Worked construction for several months. with a biker on work release from prison.
-Rode across Madison in the back of an empty dump truck.
