🎬 From the classroom to the set!

William Paterson was well represented on the set of CBS’s new series Cupertino! COMM students Sabrina Cossati and Joseph Acosta joined Professor Chriss Williams, Chair and Professor of Film in the Department of Communication, for an all-day tour of the set and production.

The visit came with an unexpected WP reunion when the group connected with COMM alumna Shania Spence ’18, who is working on the series as a Production Secretary.

Current students, faculty, and an alum working in the industry, all together on one set. It’s a great example of how experiences beyond the classroom connect our students with the professional worlds they are preparing to enter. 🎥

🏛️ Faculty Research Spotlight: Dr. Jason Silva

We’re proud to highlight the work of Dr. Jason Silva, Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice in William Paterson University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Silva’s new research with Dr. Adam Lankford was recently published in the American Journal of Criminal Justice. The study was supported by funding from the National Institute of Justice.

The researchers examined U.S. mass shootings with four or more fatalities from 2000 through 2023, focusing on warning behaviors, including leakage and threats, whether those warning signs were reported, and how reports were handled. Their findings show that nearly half of incidents involving leakage or threats went unreported by the public and point to the importance of continued research to improve threat assessment.

👏 Congratulations to Dr. Silva on this important contribution to the field and on research that helps deepen our understanding of a critical public-safety challenge.

Social change has been a core aspect of our first 250 years as a nation. The 2026 Contexts conference seeks to ask, what changes will be seen within the next 250 years of the United States? How can we change the U.S.’ next 250 years? What roles will you take to lead these changes among your communities and in your lifetime?
