This reading and workshop will explore the ways in which Latinx poets work to build and shape myths about and for Latinx peoples, as well as how and why myth making is central to Latinx and Latin American poetics. For this, Puerto Rican poet Vincent Toro will read from his own work and share the work by other poets who draw from and contribute to Latinx legacies of leyendas (legends), folk tales, and epic narratives in their verse.

Toro is the author of two poetry collections: Tertulia (Penguin Poets, 2020) and Stereo.Island.Mosaic. (Ahsahta Press, 2016). He is an Assistant Professor of English at Rider University. He earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Rutgers.

Join us in person at 5:30 for delicious hors-d’oeuvres in Hamilton Hall just outside the Martini room! 🙂
