In 1948, Lao and Walter Russell founded this unique home-study university, open to any student from any walk of life anywhere in the world. For almost fifty years, the home of the USP was at Swannanoa, where Walter Russell's painting, sculpting and historic documents were on display, and from which the Russell Home Study Course and books went out to the world. Today, while still centered near its

historic Virginia home, the University expands its global presence through the Internet and through developing centers around the world.

WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS INVENTOR - PORTRAIT BUST OF THOMAS EDISON IS COMPLETED BY WALTER RUSSELL.

Photo shows: The noted New York sculptor, Walter Russell, putting the finishing touches to his bust of Thomas Alva Edison, portraying the inventor between the ages of 65-70. The bust was ordered by the late John W. Lieb, vice president of the New York Edison Co. and was completed after his death. It will be exhibited with other portraits and studies by Mr. Russell at the 56th St. Galleries from January 13th to 26th, 1932.

⚡ We are electric creatures living in an electric universe.

From the firing of neurons to the rhythm of the heart, electrical activity is woven throughout living systems. Walter Russell invited us to take that observation even further—to contemplate creation itself as an expression of rhythmic, polarized motion arising from an underlying unity.

For Russell, electricity was more than a physical phenomenon. It was part of a larger cosmology of polarity, balance, compression, expansion, and rhythmic exchange—opposites forever seeking equilibrium.

Lao Russell’s words point toward a profound understanding of unity: that the Divine is not somewhere distant or removed from creation, but present within the whole of it—and within us.

The tree, the stranger, the stars, the earth beneath our feet, and the life looking back at us through another’s eyes are not entirely separate expressions. They belong to one living whole.

Perhaps learning to see God everywhere also asks us to look differently at one another—and to recognize something sacred in places we may have forgotten to look.

There is a silence beneath every sound.

Walter Russell reminds us that music is more than technique, vibration, or arrangement—it is an expression of the unseen creative source from which all form emerges.

Before the note, there is stillness.
Before expression, there is thought.
Before sound, there is Light.

Perhaps this is why music can move us in ways language cannot. It can point beyond itself—toward something within us that recognizes harmony before the mind can explain it.

Russell’s words invite us to consider creativity differently: not simply as something we make, but as something we become quiet enough to receive.
