Class 74 had another busy and physically demanding week!

This week, we began working on suppression skills, along with salvage and overhaul. We also had the opportunity to attend an event on campus at Weatherford College, and Tuesday night we participated in National Night Out. It was a great chance for our cadets to show off their gear, interact with the community, and give kids an up-close look at firefighter equipment.

Throughout the week, the class continued building skills in salvage and overhaul, advancing hose lines in structures, and performing search operations. As the cadets continue to get stronger, they also pushed their limits during workouts and physical training.

Next week, we will travel to the Johnson County Emergency Services Training Facility, where Class 74 will begin practicing live-fire firefighter skills. By the end of next week, they will have the opportunity to put many of their skills to the test.

Class 74 had a busy day today!

We started the day with suppression training, then headed to Weatherford College to help with a campus cookout. Together, we helped serve around 1,300 hamburgers and several hundred hot dogs.

After finishing the classroom portion of the day, we went back into Weatherford for National Night Out, where we showed off the Weatherford College fire engine and interacted with other emergency service providers from around Parker County.

It was a full day of training, service, and community involvement. Great job, Class 74!

Class 74 has had a busy couple of weeks, and they’ve been putting in the work.

Over the past two weeks, recruits have been training hard on ventilation, search, and hose handling — building the skills, confidence, and teamwork it takes to operate safely and effectively on the fireground.

We are now just two weeks out from Fire 1 live fire, and this class continues to show steady progress, determination, and commitment to the job.

Keep pushing, Class 74. The work you’re putting in now matters.

This week, Class 74 put in serious work on forcible entry and ladder operations. We trained on forcing doors and windows, tackling burglar bars—anything that stands between us and getting inside to help. We also drilled ground ladder throws, ladder selection, and safe, efficient climbing techniques.

Huge thank-you to Cresson VFD for bringing out their ladder truck. Our cadets got hands-on time with the aerial—climbing at a 70° angle and learning what 75 feet really feels like once you’re on the rungs. We capped it off with PT to keep building the strength and stamina this job demands.

Week 3 at Weatherford College Fire Academy was all about fundamentals, teamwork, and honoring sacrifice. Our cadets focused on firefighter safety, drilled with fire extinguishers, and spent time mastering rope work and essential knots—skills that save time and lives on the fireground.

On Friday, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93, our cadets completed a 110-story stair climb—starting on air—to honor the 343 fallen firefighters and all who lost their lives. Their commitment, grit, and respect were on full display. We will never forget.
