The Lodge is a fraternal order of men who are dedicated to their lodge and their community. Erie Canal Lodge, No. 141 was established September 25th 2017 as a merger of the Weedsport #385 and Cato #141 Masonic Lodges. Our roots in the area go back as far as the mid 1800’s. Many of our nation’s early founders were Freemasons. 13 signers of the Constitution and 14 American presidents have been Maso
ns, beginning with George Washington. Weedsport Lodge, founded in 1856, was not the first Masonic lodge established in Weedsport. On August 18, 1819, Brutus Lodge No. 324 was granted a charter. A few years later, the charter that was surrendered for unknown reasons. In 1824, another charter was granted to Erie Canal Lodge No. 385. Erie Canal Lodge 385 surrendered its charter and dissolved around 1826 most likely due probably to the anti-masonic feeling of the 1800s. Cato Lodge was granted a charter on June 1, 1825. Just like Weedsport Lodge, the history of Cato Lodge find itself firmly rooted in major events in American history. One member served as surgeon in the Civil War. The lodge even donated funds helped provide relief to the victims of the The Great Johnstown Flood of 1889.
