I haven't posted much lately since our daughter will be a sophmore this fall and lives off campus. It is really nice not having to be involved with any of her decisions. She has done a really good job of taking care of everything on her own, so we really feel a little disconnected to her whole college experience, at least compared to last year! I will be thinking of all the new families and incoming students! That first year is full of so many unknowns and emotions and new experiences for both you and your student. Good luck to everyone on move in and orientation!!!!!!

Hi everyone! I created this page last year when our daughter was off to her freshman year. We have learned so much over the year and I am happy to share any information I have that can help you and your student. She is now off campus in an apartment and will be starting her Sophmore year. Lots of changes and things to know, so don't be afraid to ask a question. Someone on here will most likely have an answer for you.

Has anyone moved in early? When is your move in date and where will your kiddo be living? We are moving our daughter next Wed, the 17th into Oak Hall. She is sooooo ready to get started on her college life and is even excited for her classes to start! I am happy and excited for her, but not looking forward to her not living at home anymore. It is coming fast! How is everyone doing/feeling?

We are paying for college with funds from our 529, however when my husband tries to pay UMKC directly from his 529 account, there is no option for the school. He talked with someone at UMKC and found out we have to transfer the money from the 529 to our personal account, then we can pay the tuition bill online from our bank account. Just in case anyone else was trying to figure that out.

Someone had this question, so I figured I would throw it out there for everyone.....since we are not supposed to use adhesives to hang things on the walls in the dorms, the recommendation is to use thumb tacks! Thanks for that information Christina B Coil!

Does anyone know if the 30 minute time frame for move in is the amount of time you can park your car in the designated space to unload, then you can move it to the parking garage while you help unpack and set up the room?

So if you have been to orientation, how are you feeling? We drove in the night before and although it is only 3 1/2 hrs from St Louis, it sure felt like a LONG way away......😞 As we were driving around, I was getting a little emotional. I cant even begin to think about how sad I am going to be when we drive away and leave her at the dorm. I am trying to prepare myself, but I just don't think there is any way around it--I am going to be sad...... She is SUPER excited so that helps me feel better! How is everyone feeling as we get closer to saying goodbye?????? Anyone else experiencing crabby kids? Our daughter is a nightmare right now! I think she has sooo many emotions going on right now with graduation, her party, preparing for moving away and to top things off, she and her boyfriend parted ways, which I think is a good thing, but she has been extra cranky/difficult lately! We are trying to be understanding but it’s like we are all walking on eggshells! I don’t think I have heard her laugh or seen her smile in a very long time. I know I will be crying all the way home after we drop her off, but right now, we are counting the days! 🥺
