Join us in congratulating Nicholaus Stevens Jr. on earning his High School Equivalency through our Natchez Co-Lin Adult Education Program!

Nicholaus shared that he returned to school because he recognized “the need for a high school level education within the workforce,” noting that more and more jobs require it every day. His determination and commitment to creating a better future truly paid off.

Through the help of the Second Chance Funding, Nicholaus was able to complete his GED program quickly without the burden of paying for testing costs, while also receiving support for attending classes. Programs like this continue to open doors and change lives!

Like many adult learners, returning to a classroom setting was challenging at first, but Nicholaus said the friendliness and support from his instructor and classmates helped him overcome those obstacles and feel welcomed along the journey.

When asked what advice he would give others thinking about coming back to school, he said:
“Study, study, study. Repetition is key to learning the core ideas of any subject.”

Nicholaus plans to continue exploring career and college opportunities as he takes the next steps toward his future. We are so proud of all he has accomplished and cannot wait to see what comes next for him!

Congratulations again, Nicholaus!

Congratulations to Catherine McLaurin on earning her High School Equivalency diploma through Co-Lin Adult Education!

Catherine returned to school with a goal bigger than herself, she wanted to prove that she could complete the first step toward a better future and pursue a career in the medical field, possibly as an LPN.

Throughout her journey, the Second Chance Mississippi Scholarship Program helped ease the financial burden of testing, allowing her to focus on reaching her goals instead of worrying about costs.

Like many adult learners, Catherine faced challenges while adjusting to learning again and understanding the lessons. But through patience, persistence, and hard work, she overcame those obstacles and successfully completed her HSE diploma.

Now, Catherine plans to continue her education in college and further her career in a medical technology field.

Her advice to others considering returning to school:
"Never give up, be patient with yourself, and go for what you want to do in life."

We are so proud of you, Catherine, and cannot wait to see all that your future holds!

A: “Myself. I wanted better—I needed better for me. Also, my babies.”

🎓 Q: How did Second Chance funding help you?
A: “Without Second Chance, I wouldn’t have had the motivation to do better.”

🎓 Q: What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
A: “In life and in the program… it was all a struggle. My teachers never gave up on me, so I didn’t give up either.”

🎓 Q: What are your plans now?
A: “A better job—and college!”

🎓 Q: What advice would you give others?
