Seagle Festival functions as a professional summer opera and musical theater festival and as one of the oldest summer vocal training programs in the United States founded in 1915. Each summer, emerging singers are selected through a competitive nationwide audition process and spend the season studying with professional faculty while performing in fully staged productions and concerts for the public. Braedon O’Hara was selected as a 2026 Emerging Artist and is cast as George Benton in Dead Man Walking by Jake Heggie, Bob Beckett in H.M.S Pinafore by Gilbert & Sullivan, and performing in the ensemble of Sound of Music by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Braedon is the first active WCU student to be selected for this festival in the past decade and will continue his studies in Vocal Performance at the Wells School of Music this fall and continue his professional career performing in Wilmington Concert Opera’s production of Carmen by Georges Bizet covering the role of Escamillo and performing in the ensemble.
