A century of jazz at WCU! The Criterions Jazz Ensemble, WCU’s premier jazz group, celebrates 100 years of music, tradition, and unforgettable performances. Founded in the 1920s, the Criterions are recognized as one of the longest-running university jazz bands in the country.

Join us Nov. 6–8 for offerings that include a dance soirée, concerts, and a masterclass featuring special guest Stefon Harris.

Nearly one-quarter of our fall 2026 degree-seeking student population — 24% — started their academic career at WCU as transfer students. This week is National Transfer Student Week, and the University is celebrating our transfer students with events, activities, and freebies.

Senior Aiden N. Tilery will become the first currently enrolled student to deliver the Seventh Annual Dr. Clifford E. DeBaptiste Frederick Douglass Institute Lecture.

Join us Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m. in Philips Autograph Library as Tilery presents “Self-Empowerment through Education: Becoming 21st Century Students of the Scholar Frederick Douglass.”

The lecture will explore how students today can follow Frederick Douglass’ example by using education as a tool for self-empowerment, personal growth, and positive change.
The lecture is free and open to the community.

West Chester University has been named one of Greater Philadelphia’s 50 most community-minded employers for the fifth consecutive year, recognizing the impact of our students, faculty, and staff through service, volunteerism, and community partnerships.

This recognition, along with WCU’s Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, highlights the continued commitment to creating meaningful change within the community.

West Chester University has been named a 2026 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia for the fifth consecutive year. This year, WCU ranked in the top 20% of large employers (500+ employees) for its integration and culture of community engagement.

At her Fall Address, WCU President Dr. Laurie Bernotsky shared updates on the University’s Action Plan, highlighting progress made over the past year and what’s ahead. From the opening of the One Stop Student Service Center to expanding experiential learning opportunities, the plan is already making an impact.

One year after introducing a 3-D approach to strategic planning, the president shared the initiatives moving forward and the next steps for the campus community.
