Hartford Art School A professional studio based education within the context of a university, founded in 1877. www.hart

At the Hartford Art School, we educate the whole artist through rigorous studio-based disciplines in a liberal arts university setting. And with an undergraduate enrollment of about 310 students, you can count on lots of personal attention from the professional artists, designers, and historians who teach our classes in eight diverse studio areas and art history. Because we are part of a comprehen

sive university with a broad range of courses that complement our studio disciplines, you will learn the skills it takes for you to thrive wherever your passion takes you. Courses in creative or technical writing, computer science, communications, marketing, management, history, literature, or education—whatever you desire to complement your studio courses and further your career objectives—are available at the University of Hartford.

We have some new faces around campus...and we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on two of them!

We are so excited to have Andrae Green join us as the assistant professor of painting, and Adam Chau as the Edith Dale Monson Gallery director/curator.

Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Andrae Green’s work delves into the emotional and spiritual dimensions of lived experience, especially within family relationships. His paintings illuminate vulnerability, optimism, and desire in ways that resonate with our shared humanity. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the National Gallery of Jamaica, Maddox Gallery in Los Angeles, and the Southampton Arts Center in New York.

Adam Chau is a curator, researcher, and grant administrator working in art, craft, and design. He recently finished a four-year tenure at ArtsWestchester, New York state's largest independent arts council as Director of Exhibitions, leading the on-site exhibitions program and county-wide Public Art initiatives. Dedicated to both the preservation and cutting-edge advancement of craft, he has lectured internationally on digital manufacturing and AI in the creative sector. Adam's culturally-focussed work has included The Lunar Project, which brings together artists from the Asian diaspora by commissioning artworks, performances, and craft-based activities across the United States. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the National Council for the Education in the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) and a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, a UNESCO partner.

Welcome, Andrae and Adam!

Visual artist Krista Leigh Davis will present her talk “Exercises for Interspecies Allyship," on Tuesday, April 1, at 2:30 p.m., in Wilde Auditorium. This lecture, hosted by the sculpture department, is the third of this academic year’s Auerbach Lecture Series, which is free and open to the public.

Krista Davis is a visual artist working in video, animation, performance, and sculpture, living between Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in territory (Dawson City, Yukon) and K’jipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia). Her practice is a space where dirt, bones, and jars of microscopic algal communities meet costumes, wigs, and jars of glass glitter, where queerness, the Wild, and relationships in the natural world guide artistic explorations. In this space, Davis hopes to uncover creative, even fantastical strategies to shift human and non-human relationships toward a more ecologically just world.

This talk and visit by Krista Leigh Davis is made possible by The Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation Fund of the Hartford Art School Endowment, Inc.
