As the night comes to an end, we would like to remember and honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the freedom we hold today.

As the month of May is also National Military Appreciation Month, we would like to recognize members of our own department — Sergeant Chaun Jones and Corporal Marc Gargiulo — who both served in the National Guard. We thank you both for your service and the hard work and dedication you contribute to our department every day.

A Life Star helicopter was on campus today, along with multiple ambulances. This event was hosted by in collaboration with .
This event allowed students a firsthand look at the roles of respiratory therapists, ER nurses, and EMTs.

Let’s also take a moment to appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and resilience of dispatchers everywhere. They are the backbone of emergency services, helping to keep our communities safe every day!

In collaboration with the Office of Residential Life, Aramark, and the Connecticut State Police, we will be hosting our annual Distracted Driving Awareness Day event on the lawn of GSU on Thursday, April 11th, from noon to 3pm.

This event was created to help students understand the dangers of driving while distracted (using your phone, under the influence, etc.).

We hope to see you there !

Say hello to Sergeant Jones !

“My name Sgt. Chaun Jones and I have worked within the Department of Public Safety for four years. I currently serve as the department’s Community Relations and Programs Sergeant. In addition to my daily community relations duties, I am also a fi****ms instructor, Simunitions instructor, and Officer’s Response to Active Shooter Instructor. Before joining UHart’s Department of Public Safety, I began my law enforcement career with the Connecticut Army National Guard, where I have been deployed to various countries like Panama, Kuwait, and Iraqi within the 21 years I served. I was also a Connecticut State Trooper for 20 years, where I served as a member on the Save Our Streets Task Force and a detective in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and riding my motorcycle.
My office is located in the lower level of B Complex – Warner. Feel free to stop by and say hello.“

“Hi! My name is Officer Champion and I’ve been with the UHart Public Safety Department for 5 months and I currently work third shift. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching The Office, or bowling.
Besides my parents, awesome leaders such as Martin Luther King, Maya Angelou, and Rosa Parks have impacted my life greatly. I appreciate the time we take to celebrate those who selflessly helped others and made life what it is today. Go Hawks!”

In honor of , we would like to recognize and honor a few members of the department for their dedication and contribution not only to the department, but to the University as well.

First up, meet Captain Davis -

“My name is Michael Davis and I am the Captain of the Department of Public Safety and have worked in PS for almost three years. I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children in my off time, particularly watching and coaching my daughters in their sports leagues.
I always reflect on the men and women who sacrificed so much to pave the way for people of color to move forward. People like Jackie Robinson, Dr. Martin Luther King, and Rosa Parks, are heroes who have impacted my life. We should take this time to celebrate all those who have led the way during Black History Month.”
