On Wednesday night, the Aurora Women and Girls Foundation hosted their annual Luminary Celebration with hundreds of supporters who believe in empowering others. Jennifer Rizzotti, president of the Connecticut Sun and former UHart women’s basketball coach, inspired the crowd with the keynote address. Ronika Williams ‘29 (LEAD) described the impact of LEAD during a special video presentation at the Bushnell. The video was produced by Khalia Whyte ‘21 (LEAD), M’23 and Alissa Hoffman ‘22 (LEAD), M’23.

We appreciate the Aurora Foundation’s continuous support of the LEAD program and transformative work in Greater Hartford! University of Hartford Aurora Women and Girls Foundation

The Hartford College for Women Reunion Celebrating the Classes of 1956, 1966, 1976, 1986, and 1996 was a memorable day full of reconnection, laughter, and reflection. Attendees shared their memories and journey since graduation while spending time with today’s students in The Women’s Advancement’s LEAD (Leadership Education and Development) program. Alumnae and faculty participated in Hartford College for Women trivia, viewed treasures like President Laura Johnson’s tea set, and scanned Highlander yearbooks. The highlight of the day for many was visiting the Hartford College for Reading Room on the upper level of Harrison Libraries. The Reading Room features the rug, furniture, and artwork from Butterworth Hall. It also showcases the newest installation—a gate and rail with an acorn and leaves design. The design was inspired by the acorn that Mary Woolley, president of Mount Holyoke College, planted in 1933 to symbolize the growth and potential of the College. A special thank you to all that attended in-person or virtually. We are proudly continuing and living your legacy!

The Hartford College for Women Reading Room gate, rail design, and fabrication provided by Ioana Barac, adjunct professor of design at the University of Hartford and founder of Atelier Cue, LLC/BloomerStudio. Original design concept submitted by Rosario “Rus” DeVico ’24, M’25.

Oh what a night! Please join us in congratulating UHart’s exceptional alumni who received Anchor Awards, including two of our very own: Bobbi McNeil' 94 and Shanell Farmer-Rowe ’18 (LEAD).

Bobbi McNeil ’94, a former radiology director at Hartford Hospital, served on the board of directors of The Women's Advancement Initiative, the university’s Board of Regents, Alumni Advisory Council, and the inaugural College of Education, Nursing, and Health Professions’ Board of Visitors. Although now retired, Bobbi intends never to retire from volunteering and philanthropic activity. She is dedicated to causes such as increasing scholarship availability for students and supporting programs that develop future leaders. Among the groups and boards on which she has served are the Association of Vascular and Interventional Radiographers and My Sister's Place, a nonprofit agency that provides transitional housing for women and children in need.

Shanell Farmer-Rowe ’18 (LEAD) is the London-based Director of Strategic Alliances at First Book, a national nonprofit that has delivered over 225 million books and resources to educators nationwide. A Brooklyn native, she built her early foundation in public relations, advertising, and business leadership while majoring in communications and minoring in business administration at UHart. Following her undergraduate studies, she earned an MBA in investment and portfolio management as a Forte Fellow at George Washington University, where she held leadership roles with the GW Graduate Finance Society and the National Black MBA Association. Today, Farmer-Rowe channels her strategic and financial background into expanding educational access for youth in underserved communities while staying actively involved in alumni governance and student mentorship.

The Anchor Awards are the University of Hartford's most prestigious alumni awards, recognizing and celebrating alumni who have excelled professionally and made significant contributions to their communities. Congratulations, and thank you for making a difference in the world by shining your light to illuminate the pathway for others.
