Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, co-owner of the New York Giants and y - Gotham FC, joined Jens Frederiksen, for the latest Sports Leadership Exchange Speaker Series, as part of the Frederiksen Forum, discussing innovation, culture, women’s sports, and preparing the next generation of sports industry leaders.

For Tisch Blodgett, the path to sports leadership was not as direct as she once expected. Her family became co-owners of the Giants when she was six years old, and she initially envisioned following a straightforward path toward eventually helping to run the team.

That path took her through marketing and advertising, , and pepsi, before she joined . Her experiences helped shape how she approaches branding, entrepreneurship, and organizational culture today.

The business of sports is changing rapidly, but she believes some important fundamentals remain the same: build something people care about, understand your audience, and create a strong community around it.

During Homecoming, Charger Blogger Shana-Kay Hyde '27 had the chance to interact with many alumni, including Board of Governors Chair Mike Ambrose '84, '19 Hon.

She wrote: "When I asked Mr. Ambrose what he would tell his freshman-year self if he could walk across campus with them today, he emphasized the importance of believing in yourself, continuing to learn, and embracing the challenges faced.

“'Keep believing in yourself, keep finding ways to grow,” he said. “Never be afraid of challenges.'”

Season five of Charger 360, the University's official video podcast kicked off with an appearance by longtime professor and Charger legend Marty O'Connor 76, ’26 Hon., who recently celebrated his 80th birthday.

He reflected on his journey from planning to be a catholic priest to becoming a history major at the University more than 50 years ago while he was working as a firefighter for the City of New Haven. “I found people who really cared about me and people who wanted to put in front of me opportunities that I never would have thought of myself.”

He’s done the same thing for countless students over the last 30 years as a professor. “We look at students, and we see potential in them that they might not see in themselves. That’s one of the delights of being a faculty member.”

As social media presence is essentially reshaping how audiences sees a higher ed institution, success is increasingly defined by how a school positions itself to potential students online. Colleges are now asking new questions: what does success look like today? How do we tell that story to prospective students? And how do we build meaningful community in a world where human connection is largely happening from behind a screen?

With those questions in mind, the University of New Haven has made an intentional marketing strategy shift in recent years, embracing creative risks on social media to engage the upcoming generation. Building visibility and audience connection through innovative storytelling has led to notable differentiation – not only sparking viral sharing online but also unifying the community and driving up enrollment numbers at a time when many schools are experiencing the opposite.
