Interested in quantum science but don't know where to start? QSTEP aims to clear a path for upper-level undergraduates and beginning graduate students to understand what quantum science is all about and how it relates (or could relate) to their future research and careers.

Attendance is free, but space is limited. A limited number of out-of-town students will be supported with $250 for travel and accommodation. Applications are due September 1.

Recently published in Nature Computational Science, this new paper co-authored by PQSEI-affiliated David E. Bernal Neira introduces the Quantum Optimization Benchmarking Library (QOBLIB), a community-driven effort to establish rigorous, shared benchmarks for computational optimization. By providing standardized metrics, this research helps identify where quantum optimization algorithms may offer a practical advantage over classical methods.

These benchmarks, along with recent advances in implementing optimization circuits and multi-objective optimization, are clarifying the path toward practical quantum advantage for complex commercial use cases, even before the advent of large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Big thanks to the educators who joined us for our recent Q-CaMP training sessions!

These dedicated teachers connected remotely with peers in 18 cities across the U.S. to collaborate, share ideas, and explore innovative ways to bring quantum science concepts into their classrooms.

At PQSEI, we are proud to support the next generation of the quantum workforce, and it all starts with empowering the educators who inspire them. Thank you for your passion, curiosity, and commitment to shaping the future of STEM!

Exciting news for quantum research... the Quantum Photonic Integration and Deployment (QuPID) project has officially advanced to Stage 2 of the NSF National Virtual Quantum Laboratory design competition.

Backed by a $4 million Phase 2 award, this multi-institutional project aims to develop plug-and-play photonic chips that bring quantum-light measurements out of the lab and into real-world, commercial devices.

We are thrilled that PQSEI-affiliated researchers are taking part in this vital collaboration alongside the University of Michigan and other leading academic and industry partners. Together, the team is working toward a potential $55 million center to build prototypes for GPS-free quantum navigation and advanced quantum cameras.

PQSEI faculty member Erica Carlson breaks down the fascinating world of anyons in a new video on the Quantum Age YouTube channel. The video explores how, while standard model particles are restricted to fermions or bosons, physicists can actually create fundamentally different particles inside quantum materials.
