Dr. Emily Buehler, assistant professor at the Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University, is helping students understand the powerful role relationships play in both emotional and physical well-being. Through her teaching and research, students learn how to navigate support, express care, and build healthier connections in their everyday lives.

Her work in interpersonal communication shows that support is not one size fits all. Sometimes we need advice, sometimes empathy, and sometimes just someone who will listen. She also explores how digital communication impacts these moments, reminding us that even small details can influence how supported we feel. At the core of her message is a simple truth. Meaningful relationships matter. Investing in connection can make all the difference for our well-being and
success.

As a Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University student, Bella‑Rose Kozy developed a strong understanding of how people exchange ideas, navigate cultural differences and learn from one another. Her coursework emphasized listening, context and community engagement, which helped her realize she wanted a career working directly with people rather than behind the scenes.

That focus, combined with her commitment to underserved communities, ultimately led her to Teach For America. This fall, she’ll begin teaching in Philadelphia, applying the skills and perspective she built through her communication background in the classroom.
