Tacos and teamwork at CMSC 🌮

We closed out the year celebrating the incredible students and faculty of the Composites Manufacturing & Simulation Center at Purdue University. Your dedication and innovation continue to drive what we do every day—thank you for a great year!

At the Composites Manufacturing & Simulation Center, innovation is part of everything we do — even when it comes to one of Purdue’s most recognizable traditions.

For more than 12 years, Professor Garam Kim, Professor Ronald Sterkenburg, and our talented Purdue students have helped design and manufacture Purdue Pete’s iconic head using aerospace-grade composite materials, the same advanced technology used in modern aircraft structures.

By applying the same research and manufacturing expertise used in our lab every day, Purdue Pete’s head has been transformed from nearly 40 pounds to less than 2 pounds — making it lighter, stronger, and uniquely Purdue.

It’s one more example of how hands-on learning and advanced composites continue to shape the future at CMSC.

Boilermakers make Purdue Pete’s carbon-fiber head at the Composites Manufacturing & Simulation Center, blending innovation and Purdue pride.
