The future of agriculture starts with curious minds!

From June 10–12, the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture welcomed 16 high school students to Purdue for the 4-H Academy. Students explored a wide range of opportunities in horticulture through hands-on activities, including landscape architecture, a student farm tour, Ross-Ade Stadium and baseball stadium tours, turfgrass center activities, plant natural product chemistry, leaf pigment extraction, and a behind-the-scenes look at the HLA greenhouses.

Today, we welcome Dr. Anjali Iyer-Pascuzzi as the new head of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture.

Dr. Iyer-Pascuzzi brings strong evidence-based thinking, strategic vision, and a genuine commitment to connecting research, teaching, and engagement. We are excited for the leadership, energy, and perspective she will bring to the department in the years ahead.

As we begin this new chapter, we also extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Aaron Patton for his service as interim department head. Dr. Patton has now twice stepped into this role, providing steady leadership and helping guide the department through periods of transition. His dedication, professionalism, and willingness to serve are deeply appreciated.

What happens when England’s most iconic landscapes become the classroom?

Students in Purdue HLA’s In the English Landscape study abroad program spent three weeks exploring the history, design, and beauty of England’s gardens, estates, historic sites, and urban spaces. Their journey included visits to Bath, Avebury Henge, Kenilworth Castle, Chatsworth Estate, Oxford, RHS Wisley, Sissinghurst, and London, where they learned how landscapes have evolved over centuries and continue to influence design today.

From sketching historic architecture and walking through world-renowned gardens to meeting landscape architects and discovering England’s cultural heritage, students gained experiences that simply can’t be recreated in a classroom.
