Team “GEMS” Wins SyDAg 2026 Hackathon IoT4 Ag Track

Sajad Jamshidi (postdoc), Yasas Gamagedara (postdoc), and Dipesh Giri (PhD student) from Dr. Sidd Paul’s GEMS lab won first place in the IoT4Ag track of the 2026 Symposium of Digital Agriculture (SyDAg) Hackathon.

The team addressed a challenge focused on predicting end-of-season maize grain yield using multi-temporal satellite imagery and agronomic management information. The challenge centered on translating predictive yield estimates into actionable intelligence, allowing crop teams to efficiently prioritize field inspections and proactively identify plots that may benefit from intervention.
