Big news from the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering!

Dave Corti has been named the next Jay and Cynthia Ihlenfeld Head of the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, effective Aug. 17, 2026.

A Purdue faculty member since 1998, Dave is a highly regarded researcher, teacher and mentor known for his work in molecular thermodynamics, colloidal dispersions and molecular simulation — and for his dedication to undergraduate education.

We’re proud to congratulate PhD student Phin Ariyaphuttarat on winning a poster award at the ACS Colloids meeting!🎉

His research examines how different concentrations of chemically attached pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines influence cell-mediated remodeling in a synthetic hydrogel, work that could improve biological application studies.

♻️ Can your old phone battery help build the sidewalk you walk on?

Purdue researchers just found a clever way to give dead batteries a second life — by mixing them into concrete!

As electric vehicles and gadgets pile up more battery waste every year, most of it still ends up in landfills. So a team from Purdue's Davidson School of Chemical Engineering and Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering decided to test something different: swapping out a portion of the sand in concrete for recycled battery material.

We're proud to congratulate Vilas Pol on his induction into the inaugural Purdue Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors! 🎉

Pol leads the Vilas Pol Energy Research (ViPER) group here in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, where his team works to develop next-generation battery technologies — from extreme-temperature charging to thermal safety innovations. During his time at Purdue, he has been granted 19 U.S. patents through the Purdue Innovates Office of Technology Commercialization.

🎉 Congratulations to graduate student Marcus Condarcure on earning the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship!

Marcus is one of just 2,277 fellows selected nationally this year — and one of 24 from Purdue, placing us among the top 30 institutions in the country.

His research focuses on designing and optimizing photobioreactors to produce valuable biochemicals, work that could shape the future of sustainable manufacturing. We're proud to have him in the Davidson School family!
