The West Liberty University Food Pantry has been selected as a beneficiary of the Kroger Columbus Fight Hunger Bag Program for June and July 2026, helping support efforts to address food insecurity within the local community.

The initiative, launched by Kroger Columbus as part of its Zero Hunger | Zero Waste commitment, allows shoppers to support local hunger relief organizations through the purchase of reusable Fight Hunger bags. For every $2.50 reusable Fight Hunger bag sold during the two-month campaign, $1 will be donated directly to the West Liberty University Food Pantry.

The program will take place at the following Kroger location:

1241 Warwood Avenue
Wheeling, WV

Fourteen West Liberty University employees graduated from the Aspire U employee leadership program on Friday, April 17, 2026. The group was the second to complete the program, joining 10 who graduated in the program’s first year.

Over the course of the year, the group engaged in monthly, day-long sessions focused on leadership development, including exploring leadership theories, hearing from guest speakers, and meeting with community leaders in Wheeling.

West Liberty University held its Spring 2026 Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9, in the Academic, Sports, and Recreation Complex (ASRC), awarding degrees to 310 undergraduate and graduate students.

The ceremony was the first for the University’s new Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Program. Eight graduates received their doctoral degrees during the ceremony.

Stephanie Shaw, a West Liberty University alumna and Vice President of Global Corporate Products at InterContinental Hotels Group, delivered the commencement address and received an honorary degree.

A group of students from West Liberty University’s Gary E. West College of Business recently gained hands-on professional sports experience while working behind the scenes at the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Representing programs including Sport Management, Marketing, Graphic Design, and Physical Education, students assisted with several operational areas throughout the event. Responsibilities included supporting guest services, managing fan engagement experiences and photo opportunities, assisting with the NFL Play 60 zone, working in the NFL+ Lounge, and supporting activations connected to corporate partners such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

West Liberty University’s Dean of the College of Liberal and Creative Arts, Cecilia Konchar Farr, Ph.D., will host a book launch event in Pittsburgh this week celebrating her latest literary work and contributions to modernist scholarship.

The event, titled “Gertrude Stein Party,” will take place on Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at White Whale Bookstore in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The event will also be accessible virtually.

Konchar Farr’s newest work, As I Was Saying…, serves as a companion reader to Gertrude Stein’s The Making of Americans, offering readers insight and guidance into one of the most ambitious works of modernist literature.

West Liberty University faculty and students participated in the 100th Annual Meeting of the West Virginia Academy of Science, held April 18 at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia.

Dr. Roger Seeber, Professor of Biology at West Liberty University, was recognized with a distinguished service award for his more than 40 years of dedication and service to the West Virginia Academy of Science.

Four West Liberty University students earned awards for their research presentations: Audrey Blust, Hannah Holbert, Alyssa Lutz, and Madelyn Cecil.

West Liberty University had the largest number of faculty and student attendees of any West Virginia institution of higher education at the event.

West Liberty University will celebrate its Spring 2026 Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9, at 11 a.m. inside the Academic, Sports, and Recreation Complex (ASRC) on the University’s main campus in West Liberty. The event is open to graduates and their invited guests.

Stephanie Shaw, a West Liberty University alumna and Vice President of Global Corporate Products at InterContinental Hotels Group, will deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary degree.

The Spring 2026 student speaker is Ryan Zumpano, a Computer Information Systems major with double minors in Data Analysis and Marketing from Shadyside, Ohio.

The ceremony will also mark a historic milestone for West Liberty University as the University celebrates the first graduating class of its new Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Program. Eight graduates will receive their doctoral degrees during the commencement ceremony.

The West Liberty University annual Honors Recital is Sunday, May 3 at 4 p.m. in College Hall’s Elbin Auditorium. The recital is free and open to the public.

West Liberty University music students Lee Currie, Caleb McKeegan, Alex Marchese, Tiffany Sites, Carly Fox, and Ashton Cornell have been selected to perform in this year's Honors Recital.
