A message from our Department to you this back-to-school season 📚✏️🚌

As we enter back-to-school season, please be mindful of the information you share when posting a picture of your child with a “First Day of School” sign.

Often times these signs may include a child’s full name, age, teacher’s name, school they attend, grade and class number, sports they are involved in, favorite activities, and more. While many of these details may seem harmless on the surface, they are actually creating an outline of your child’s life and daily routine that is now exposed to the public.

Now, we are not saying to stop celebrating those special first-day moments! We just want to remind you that sometimes less is more! Try to leave identifiable details off of signs. This includes things like your child’s full name, school name, teacher’s name, classroom number, bus number, sports teams and more.

We hope everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy school year! 📓🖍️

The Ohio County Sheriff's Office is seeking part-time armed building security positions. Applicants must currently possess, or eligible to possess a West Virginia Concealed Carry Weapon Permit, pass current Sheriff's Office physical fitness standards, pass a criminal background check, and have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Pay is $18.00 per hour with NO benefits. Applications are available at the Ohio County Sheriff's Office, 51 - 16th St., Wheeling, WV, Monday-Friday from 8am-12pm and 1pm-3:30pm.
