It's been a while since we have done this... Meet our March student spotlight: Meghan (featuring her lovely pup North)!

I left a job in marketing to pursue a lifelong career in counseling - it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. After interviewing several counseling professionals and comparing CACREP accredited programs, my heart became set on Monmouth University. What drew me to the program was the diverse curriculum, along with the encouragement and support for field placement opportunities. For the past year I’ve had the honor of serving on the executive board of our department’s honors society, Chi Sigma Iota. Being able to work beside Dr. Megan Delaney and my peers has been a highlight of my educational journey. I am especially passionate about trauma-informed approaches to psychotherapy, particularly with children and adolescents, along with being a fierce advocate for the LGBT+ community. I will be graduating from this program in May 2022. My dream is to have my own private practice one day, where I can utilize creative outlets such as woodworking and music to address underlying mental health needs. I also hope to teach at a University - leading a life where I can be a support for my clients and professional counselors.

There may be no classes today but our students are working hard. Meet our December student spotlight: Christiana!

I came to Monmouth because the program seemed to offer exactly what I wanted within the helping professions; counseling that focused on wellness of the person from many different facets, as well as licensure that would allow me to work in a variety of settings and with many populations. During my time in the program, I held the role of president of CSA for a year, as well as the honor of working as graduate assistant for Dr. Jodry. I find that I am continuously drawn to working with the population who is either still incarcerated or was formally incarcerated. This population is very underserved, misunderstood, and needs resources and proper help. I've had two internship experiences with this population and they were so meaningful and only furthered my passion to help. One day, I'd love to have my own private practice, as well as contribute to the literature of our field. I am finishing up my degree this month, and will be entering the field as a professional soon. My time at Monmouth has truly flown by, but I wouldn't trade my experience here for anything.

Meet our November Student Spotlight, Matt!
Taking an undergrad class called Psychotherapy and Behavior is what really persuaded me to go into the field and after talking with the professor of that class it was clear that going the master's route was a great option for me. Monmouth's program has a history of excellence plus Monmouth County is just my favorite place to be so it felt like the right decision. I am currently in the counseling honors society, Chi Sigma Iota. With graduation coming up soon at the end of the semester, I am currently most interested in counseling college students and young adults experiencing anxiety disorders and depression. However I would also love to have the opportunity to get into sports psychology and help athletes.
