We would like to highlight Dreyfoos Communications students Charlotte “Charlie” Bastien and Alice Yang on their achievements at the National Poetry Month Youth Summit!

Charlie, Class of 2027, earned 1st place, receiving a laptop and a $1,500 college scholarship. Alice, Class of 2028, earned 2nd place, receiving a laptop and a $1,000 college scholarship. Charlie’s scholarship also gave her the opportunity to attend a summer program at Dartmouth College this past July.

Now, the two students will be featured performers at Poetry Night at the Benz, the Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts’ monthly celebration of spoken word and creative expression.

The performance marks their first youth-led initiative since the Summit. After continuing to meet and discuss issues they felt deserved greater attention, the students chose drug prevention as the focus of their first collective effort, tying their October performance to Drug Prevention Month.

We are so proud to see Charlie and Alice continue using their creativity and voices to make an impact in our community.

Enrique Parisca, Dreyfoos Musical Theatre Class of 2027, spent six weeks this summer at Carnegie Mellon University’s Pre-College Drama Program, immersing himself in the rigorous training and creative community of one of the country’s leading theatre programs.

From acting, singing, and private voice lessons to tap, jazz, ballet, dramaturgy, and acting for the camera, Enrique trained alongside passionate young artists and accomplished theatre professionals. He also participated in a six-week choreography workshop, where he and two fellow students created an original piece and performed it in a showcase.

“The six-week program was intense, academic, and rigorous: exactly what I needed to prepare for college auditions this year!” said Enrique.

Enrique’s experience was made possible with the Simon Benson Offit Summer Institute Scholarship awarded through the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation.

Congratulations, Enrique! Break a leg this audition season!
