Our robust AIAD (Academic Individual Advanced Development) Program is run out of the CHSS (Conflict and Human Security Studies) Office in the Department of Social Sciences at West Point and offers cadets a variety of opportunities to enhance their education outside of the classroom. We’ve sent cadets to over 50 countries to experience cultural immersion, volunteer with NGO’s in developing countrie
s, work on internships with US embassies and NATO, conduct research, and to participate in various academic projects as well. We partner with NGOs to provide opportunities for cadets to engage directly with local populations on development projects and make meaningful contributions to the communities they’re serving. Through these experiences, cadets increase their cross-cultural competence and develop crucial leadership skills that will enable them to operate in complex and culturally diverse security environments as junior officers in the near future. Our American Politics and Economics internship programs provide exceptional opportunities for cadets to apply skills, concepts, and theories learned in the classroom to challenging projects in a professional setting. These experiences expose our cadets to different leadership styles and organizational structures while broadening their perspectives and greatly enhancing their professional development.
