Mercer County Community College, Automotive Technology

Mercer County Community College, Automotive Technology Educating the Highest Quality Team of Automotive Technicians The Automotive Technology Program at Mercer County Community College is an A.A.S.

degree program that educates students in all aspects of automotive technology. The college offers three concentrations of study for students to choose from: The Mopar Career Automotive Program (MCAP), Subaru University, and Comprehensive Automotive Program. MCAP focuses on specific technologies used for the operation of Stellantis vehicles (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). Graduates of the MCA

P typically move directly into full-time employment at a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, or Fiat dealership. The Subaru University program introduces students to technology found in vehicles manufactured by Subaru of America. Subaru University graduates generally accept full-time job offers from a Subaru dealership after they finish the program. Students in the Comprehensive Program follow a learning path similar to MCAP and Subaru University, except the focus of study can center on any other vehicle manufacturer outside of Stellantis and Subaru of America. Each of the three concentrations require the completion of paid internships over the two-year duration of the program. Internship must be completed an approved automotive repair facility, where students will have exposure to the content taught in the automotive curriculum. While there are some restrictions, students can choose to intern at a full-service facility of their choosing. The relationships between the students and their internship facilities that are built during the time spent interning helps make the transition from college to full-time employment easier. Automotive theory is learned in the classroom and the college's automotive lab, while real-life repair experience is gained during the required internships. The internship component of each program exposes students to a learning environment like no other, while allowing the students to earn money while they learn the trade. The college also partnered with Audi of America to offer a unique learning opportunity for Mercer graduates. Want to learn more? Email [email protected] to request more information.

The Mopar Career Automotive Program and Tony Stewart Racing hosted Mopar CAP students from Mercer County Community College last Friday at Maple Grove Raceway. Students have been attending this event for the past few years, and it never disappoints! A special thank you goes out to Tony Stewart, Leah Pruett, and Matt Hagan for their hospitality and for speaking with everyone and offering meaningful words of advice and encouragement for achieving success and a rewarding career. This event is an opportunity for students to connect with industry leaders from vehicle manufacturers and local employers. Touring the pits, watching some racing, and meeting professional drivers was awesome as well... All of these things were the ingredients for a perfect day!

A group of Mercer County Community College’s Mopar CAP students completed the Introduction to High-Voltage Systems course today. Afterwards, the students expressed how they felt less nervous about working on high-voltage vehicles, since they had learned more about their operation and the proper power-down and power-up procedures for the high-voltage electrical system. They also enjoyed getting some hands-on experience with testing for the presence of high-voltage after the power-down process, and isolation testing before the power-up procedure. Mercer’s Automotive Electricity and Electronics class practiced vehicle communications diagnosis this week on some faulted vehicles in the college’s automotive lab. These were some challenging diagnosis but the students did a fantastic job at drilling down to the root causes of the customers’ concerns. It is amazing how a seemingly minor network malfunction can disable multiple vehicle systems.

If you want to learn more about career options in the automotive industry, be sure to attend the spring open house, which will be hosted in the gymnasium on the college’s West Windsor Campus on April 9th from 5:30 to 7:30. We’ll be there!
