The course prepares students as emergency medical care providers in a pre-hospital setting. Persons certified as EMT-Paramedics provide a higher level of care as specified by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the National Registry of EMTs. The course of study earns the student up to 45 semester credit hours that may be matriculated into the EMS Associate of Applied Science degree.

The WCJC EMS program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
