The Crossroads Scholarship for White House High School

The Crossroads Scholarship for White House High School A Scholarship fund to benefit Seniors at White House High School in White House, TN Odell and Esterlene were lifelong residents of Sumner County.

The Crossroads Scholarship in Memory of Odell and Esterlene Starks was created by the children and grandchildren of Odell and Esterlene Starks to memorialize two incredible people. The scholarships creation is a means to further solidify their legacy while supporting the college aspirations of students at White House High School. They were graduates of the 1939 class at White House High School. Bo

th of their sons graduated from White House High School (Lynn Starks class of 1963 and Wayne Starks class of 1965). The Starks were pillars of the White House community. They operated a small grocery store and service station at the intersection of Highway 25 and Highway 76 known as the Johnson’s Crossroads. They later operated an auto parts store in both Portland and White House. Odell and Esterlene Starks are fondly remembered as a loving couple who always served others by their true giving nature. Although they never had or made much money, they were incredible givers to their church (Walnut Grove Methodist Church), their community and to others who were less fortunate. Their giving, loving hearts is the impetus behind the creation of this scholarship and will allow their legacies to live on.

“Standing at a crossroads signifies being at a decision-making point in life. It’s appropriate, then, that a scholarship offered at White House High School bears the name—The Crossroads Scholarship (501-C3). I recently chatted with the founder, Wayne Starks, and his nephew, Shane. They revealed the heartbeat behind the scholarship and a bit of White House history too.”
