New BadgeStudio Project: Shakopee Police
The Shakopee Police Department worked closely with our BadgeStudio team to create one of the most intricate badges we have designed.
Like many BadgeStudio projects, this design started with a conversation. Their team came prepared, engaged, and focused on telling the story of both their department and the city they serve. The result is a badge built around local history, landmarks, and symbols that are distinctly Shakopee.
At the center of the badge, the story unfolds through several carefully chosen details:
* Bison and tipi, representing the local Dakota history and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s recent work to reintroduce bison to tribal land.
* Five rays or stars, representing the department’s core values.
* Lewis Street Bridge, connecting the design to one of Shakopee’s recognizable landmarks.
* Canterbury Park with horses, referencing one of the city’s most well-known destinations for live horse racing.
* Minnesota state shape with a star, marking Shakopee’s location within the state.
* Roller coaster, recognizing Valleyfair and its place in the city’s identity.
* Subtle city skyline, rolling land, and landscape, tying the full composition back to the local landscape.
This badge is a strong example of what a custom badge can become when a department brings a clear story to the design process. Every detail has a reason. Every symbol helps make the badge their own.
Thank you to the Shakopee Police Department for trusting Smith & Warren with your badge.
