One of the smallest Masonic artifacts tells a remarkably big story.

Charles S. Stratton became world famous as General Tom Thumb, touring internationally under P. T. Barnum and becoming one of the best-known entertainers of the 1800s.

Away from the stage, Stratton was also a Freemason.

He was raised a Master Mason at St. John’s Lodge No. 3 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1862.

His Masonic apron measured only 7 by 8 inches.

More than 160 years later, that apron survives as a remarkable piece of Masonic history in Philadelphia.

A very small artifact from a Brother whose name traveled around the world.

Remembering Brother Sam Houston
March 2, 1793 – July 26, 1863
Today, we remember Brother Sam Houston, who passed to the Celestial Lodge Above on this day in 1863.
A soldier, statesman, the first President of the Republic of Texas, and a devoted Freemason, Brother Houston left an enduring legacy of courage, leadership, and unwavering conviction.
Many Masons know that when the Grand Lodge of the Republic of Texas was organized in 1837, Brother Sam Houston presided over the convention that brought Texas Masonry together, helping lay the foundation for what would become the Grand Lodge of Texas. While Brother Anson Jones was elected the first Grand Master, Sam Houston's leadership and dedication were instrumental in the birth of Texas Freemasonry. �

We had a great Installation of our new officers! A special thank you to Kevin Moss, Grand Lodge Representative from the Committee on Work, for being part of this special evening, and to Tom Hancock for leading our lodge with an inspiring speech.

A huge congratulations to Jimmy Lane on becoming the Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge of White Settlement #1372! Wishing you a successful and rewarding year as you lead the lodge with dedication, integrity, and brotherly love.

THE TEMPLE THAT WAS NEVER OUTSIDE

There’s a lesson many have heard…
but few have actually worked on.

In Masonry, we talk about building a Temple—
not made with hands.

Most hear that…
and still look outward.

The Lodge room.
The ritual.
The symbols.

And don’t get it wrong—those matter.
They’re the blueprint.

But they’re not the structure.

Because the real Temple?

It’s you.

Your thoughts.
Your actions.
Your character when no one’s watching.

We’re taught to square our actions…
to walk upright…
to govern our passions.

Why?

Because the work isn’t out there.

It’s within.

A lot of men spend their whole lives chasing something—
truth, purpose, meaning…

Looking for it in titles.
In recognition.
In someone else’s approval.

Meanwhile, the Craft has been pointing in one direction the entire time:

📐 Know thyself.

This isn’t about rejecting faith.
It’s not about replacing anything sacred.

It’s about understanding responsibility.

Because once you realize the work is within you…

There’s nowhere left to hide.

No excuses.
No shortcuts.
No waiting for someone else to build it for you.

The tools were placed in your hands for a reason.

🔨 To shape your rough ashlar
📐 To measure your conduct
🧱 To build something real… from the inside out

Some men stay on the surface—
memorizing words, wearing the apron…

But never stepping into the work.

Others?

They pick up the tools…
and start building.

So the question isn’t whether the Temple exists.

The question is—

Are you building it…
or just standing around admiring the plans?
