Come excavate with us!
The University of Michigan Museum of Anthropological Archaeology (UMMAA) offers an annual summer field school. This year, our field school will take place from May 25th-July 3, 2025, in western Kazakhstan, with Professor Alicia Ventresca Miller. Participants will engage in a six-credit course (ANTHRARC 487) focusing on advanced archaeological methods at the Early Bronze Age cemetery of Kumsay, dating approximately between 3800 and 2900 BCE. Under the guidance of Dr.Ventresca Miller, students will receive training in bioarchaeological techniques, including burial excavation, human osteology, and laboratory methods. The application deadline is February 24, 2025. Students are responsible for tuition and air travel expenses, however grants are available through UMMAA, the Department of Anthropology and outside sources.
