🎻 Senior Recital Spotlight | Jillian Campa

We’re kicking off our Senior Recital Spotlight series with violist Jillian Campa! Ahead of her November 1 recital, we asked Jillian a few questions about her music, her experiences, and what she’s looking forward to sharing.

What’s your go-to practice break snack or drink?

Iced pumpkin spice latte!

What’s a musical experience that reminded you why you love what you do?

Working with students in the classroom has been such a great experience! My time at Northwest High School so far has been truly fulfilling.

Which piece on your recital are you most excited to share, and why?

I am eager to share every piece for their own reasons! But if I had to pick, it would be the W.F. Bach duet for two violas. I get to share the stage with my best friend and forever viola companion, Bailey Jensen.

What’s been the most challenging or rewarding part of preparing your recital?

The most rewarding part has been creating various emotions, stories, and scenes. I’m so thrilled to be able to share the art I’ve been working on to you all!

🎻 A busy weekend for the WSU String Area!

Our music education majors spent Sunday attending KCOMTEPS, connecting with fellow educators, exploring new teaching strategies, and gaining valuable professional experience!

Meanwhile, Dr. Balboa took the stage with Trio Balez for an afternoon of chamber music featuring voice, viola, and piano.

A weekend full of learning, collaboration, and music-making! 💛🖤

What a fantastic weekend at the KASTA Summer Conference!

A big congratulations to Jillian Campa and Bailey Jensen for representing the Wichita State Viola Studio. We are so proud of the way they represented our program!

Our string faculty was also well represented. Dr. Laycock presented an outstanding conducting masterclass for string educators, and Dr. Balboa had the privilege of conducting the Middle School Honors Orchestra.

Thank you to KASTA for a wonderful conference filled with learning, collaboration, and inspiring music making. We are already looking forward to next year!

The Fairmount String Trio, consisting of Dr. Timothy Jones, Dr. Ruben Balboa, and Dr. Leonid Shukaev, with guest Daniel Carrasco, gave a sneak preview at this week’s convocation of two movements from String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96 “American” by Antonín Dvořák.

Join us Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery for the full performance, also featuring works by Joseph Haydn and Alexander Borodin. We would love to see you there.
