Say hello hello to Lucy - another one of our fabulous Fine Arts student workers! Lucy is great with issuing tickets, taking calls in the office, running the front of house at events, and pretty much everything we ask of her to do! ⭐️

Hello Hello! ☀️ My name is Lucy, I'm a Senior Voice Performance Major at Friends University and I am graduating in May!

I have been a Singing Quaker for four years and the Soprano 2 Section Leader for the last two years, and I have loved every moment of it! My favorite memories being a Singing Quaker were on the Spain and Portugal Tour last year!

I have also had the best time studying performing in Operas at Friends! I tried out Opera for the first time in 2022, and it just stuck! My favorite being when I played "The Announcer" in Gallantry by Douglas Moore.

In my spare time, you can find me reading, working on artwork, studying, and learning new music! 🎶

Did anyone see Lucy perform at last weekend's Singing Quaker Home Concerts? If not, keep an eye out for her when she takes to the stage for Symphony of Spring (April 25-27)!

On Sunday, the Friends University Concert Jazz band provided some swinging tunes for the good people at Wichita Swing Dance Society at The Lux! The dance group has collaborated with the Fine Arts Jazz department on multiple events. It's so great to see our partnerships in the community spreading joy through movement and music!

You can experience what our talented jazz musicians have to offer at this Wednesday's Casado Jazz Night, and at the Jazz Finale Concert on Saturday, May 3. Info and tickets can be found at friends.edu/fineartstickets.

Don't miss the last Casado Jazz Night of the semester! Featuring Jazz Lab Band, Soulstice and Equinox, Wednesday April 2, 7-9 p.m.

And let's hear it for Fine Arts student worker Ema, who has designed the last several Casado Jazz Night posters! Here's Ema's comments on her design process for this event...
____________

This poster has become our staple for Casado Jazz night! I started this process after speaking with Dr. Schroeder, our Jazz band director, about what ideas he wanted to convey. He decided that he wanted to show community and connection in our poster, so I started brainstorming.

What I ended up doing was creating the same atmosphere as our lower Casado. It’s quite simple with just the tables, so I wanted to jazz it up (pun intended) by giving a nod to the groups performing. On these tables you’ll see a sun for Soulstice, a moon for Equinox, and some beakers and test tubes for our Jazz Lab Band. It’s a fun way to both show what the performance is about while showcasing our awesome ensembles!
____________
Great work Ema!
