The Department of Public Safety at Wilkes University is committed to providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. Maintaining a safe and secure campus takes commitment from both our office and the campus community, working together. Be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for yourself, and for others. Be alert for anything that may be suspicious. Trust your insti

ncts, and never hesitate to call Public Safety for assistance. All Wilkes University community members are encouraged to report all crimes and safety-related issues to Public Safety in a timely manner. To report an incident, use the Campus Security Authority Incident Report Form or contact the Department of Public Safety at (570) 408-4999. The Department of Public Safety is responsible for all campus safety and security matters. Our dedicated staff of patrol officers traverse the campus and its perimeter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Public Safety Officers (PSO’s) working in the Department of Public Safety are certified under Pennsylvania Act 235 (The Lethal Weapons Training Act). Our officers attend mandatory in-service training sessions which cover a myriad of law enforcement and campus safety topics. The Department of Public Safety maintains an excellent relationship the Wilkes-Barre Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. The Department of Public Safety prepares this webpage, including the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report (ASFSR), to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act. This report is prepared in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies surrounding the campus and the Department of Public Safety. The report is also made available on the University website at http://www.wilkes.edu/annualsafetyreport.

He joined the Wilkes University Police Department in May of 2019.

We thank Chief Jagoe for the many years of service to the Wilkes community and his efforts in building a dedicated team of law enforcement and safety professionals.

The Wilkes University Police Department joins police departments throughout the nation for No Shave November.

No Shave November challenges participants to forgo shaving in order to provoke conversations regarding cancer awareness and raise critical funds for research and services for those impacted by cancer.

Chief Christopher Jagoe has authorized members of the WUPD to participate in this event and has waived the standard facial hair grooming policy to allow staff to grow out their facial hair in support of this national campaign.

WUPD staff who make a donation to the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute before Nov. 15, will be permitted to grow a well-groomed beard.

From Nov. 1-Nov. 30, staff members have the option to continue their efforts. They can continue fundraising via family, friends and the public to raise additional money and earn the ability to keep their facial hair until Jan. 1.

Proceeds from No Shave November will go to the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, a local, non-profit organization working to ease the burden of cancer in northeastern Pennsylvania. The Cancer Institute is unique in that it is an independent, exclusively local entity with the flexibility to respond directly to the evolving needs of the community.

Please participate in this event by making a contribution to the cause. An investment in the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute can help provide important community and patient services to all citizens of northeastern Pennsylvania.

If you want to make a contribution in honor or memory of a friend or family member, please provide those details along with your contribution and the Institute we will send a letter informing the honoree or family of your thoughtfulness.

Checks payable to the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute should be sent to:

The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute
334 Jefferson Avenue
Scranton, PA 18510-4501

Our thanks to the Wilkes community for doing their best in masking up, observing physical distancing, and working to keep us all safe.

A quick reminder to those living off campus - it doesn't take long for a small group stopping by to a large group overwhelming your residence. Let's continue to work together and hold off on gatherings until we get through this pandemic.
