King’s College MSAT students participated in a hands-on, comprehensive mass casualty response simulation on Saturday, April 25, at the Frank and Carolyn Kowalski Center for Advanced Healthcare Education. The event allowed MSAT students to collaborate professionally and communicate with professionals from other disciplines outside of athletic training. Students provided emergency care and triage skills during the event alongside professionals from Geisinger Wyoming Valley and the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, as well as other students from the nursing, criminal justice, physician assistant, occupational therapy, and healthcare administration programs.

MSAT YEAR 2 SPOTLIGHT

As the Year two students are preparing for graduation and the BOC exam in the next couple of weeks we would like to spotlight them in their remaining immersive experience

Next we would like to highlight Brandi McIntosh. She is currently at the University of Scranton. She is working with both Women’s and men’s lacrosse along with baseball.

Brandi says “I am loving the opportunity of working with competitive teams and beginning the transition from student to clinician with the guidance of my Preceptor Greg Jaindl (pictured) along with Mike, Paul, and Emily  (class of 2025 also pictured). “

Her goal after graduation is to work in the Wilkes-Barre Scranton area as an ATC providing whatever athletes or organizations that need her!

SETU spotlight

The King’s College AT program would like to spotlight the SETU students in their remaining time here at King’s. Second we have Seán Dunne.

He wrote “My name is Seán Dunne, a final year Sports Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy student at SETU Carlow. I’m really passionate about sports and have always wanted to be involved in athlete care in some capacity. I was drawn to Athletic Therapy/Training as it was a great way to stay connected to the sports I love while truly doing work I find fulfilling.

His future plans involve working in professional sports. He loves the atmosphere that team sports bring especially at such a high level where sense of accomplishment is embedded in his role as a health care professional but also in achieving a common goal. He wishes to further his education but hasn’t figured out what discipline he would like to explore yet.

When asked his standout moment at kings he wrote “it’s very hard to pick one. Something that will stick with me was the opportunity to be present at a video call with one of King’s AT programs alumni Andres Armstrong who has achieved my dream and is working in the NFL with the Detroit Lions. Being able to listen and talk with him was an incredible experience as it really made my goals feel achievable. I’d also like to mention how rewarding working with the sports teams and athletes here and King’s College was. I had the amazing opportunity and privilege to work with sports that were unfamiliar to me such as Baseball and Ice Hockey.”

When asked what he’ll miss most he wrote “The genuine connections I’ve made with athletes, friends and my AT faculty and preceptors who worked so hard to welcome us and really made this experience one of great personal growth and development. I’ll forever feel part of the King’s family.”

We wish Seán luck on his future plans and thank him for pursuing the opportunity here at King’s!

3+2 MSAT program students Mackenzie Seeley (sophomore) and Mia Ashton (junior) were inducted into Delta Epsilon Sigma (DES) today. Mackenzie is one of only 6 sophomores inducted and Mia is one of only 21 juniors inducted.

From the program: “Delta Epsilon Sigma is a national scholastic honor society for students, faculty and alumni of colleges and universities with a Catholic tradition. It was founded in 1939 to recognize academic accomplishments, to foster scholarly activities and to encourage a sense of intellectual community among its members.”

SETU SPOTLIGHT
The King’s College AT program would like to spotlight the SETU students in their remaining time here at King’s. First up, we have Patrick Lacey.

He wrote:
“I’m Patrick and I’m 22 years old. I’ve always had a passion for sports and played a wide variety since I was a kid. My main sport was always karate where I’ve competed and medalled internationally for the past few years. Becoming an Athletic Trainer is a great way for me to stay closely involved in sport as a career.”

His future plans are still developing, but once he is qualified he aims to gain more clinical experience for a year in Ireland before returning to academia(most likely pursuing a masters degree in sports medicine and exercise science or physiotherapy, potentially pursuing a PhD).

When asked his best experience at King’s and what he’ll miss most he answered “I had many great experiences while at King’s. Being able to work closely with new sports like ice hockey and lacrosse exposed me to unique and valuable situations. I’ve also been fortunate to spend time travelling in the U.S while on break from college.”

“The thing I’ll miss most is the people. I’ve made great friendships with students and staff who I hope to keep in touch with and see again someday.”

We wish Patrick luck on his future plans and thank him for pursuing the opportunity here at King’s!
